The Cause
Youth Futures
Established in 2015, the Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge is Youth Futures’ flagship fundraising event, raising vital funds to support at-risk young Western Australians.
Youth Futures is one of WA’s longest-running youth-specific charities, with a legacy of over 40 years of empowering young people with the support, skills, and opportunities they need to thrive.
What began in 1985 as a simple idea to reduce youth homelessness has since grown into a holistic organisation offering a wide range of wraparound services designed to meet young people where they’re at and walk beside them on their journey.
Today, Youth Futures provides:
- Safe accommodation and tailored support for young people at risk of homelessness
- Culturally sensitive programs and intensive support for young refugees
- Alternative education options in four Community School Hubs for students disengaged from mainstream schooling
- Driving programs for disadvantaged young people to boost independence and job readiness
- Drug education and support for young people struggling with substance use
- Emergency relief, including food hampers, clothing, medicine, and furniture
- Support for young people in accessing mental health services
At its core, Youth Futures believes every young person deserves to feel safe, supported, and valued, regardless of their circumstances. Through initiatives like the Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge, they continue to build brighter futures, one young life at a time.
The Nest Program
The Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge was created to raise funds specifically for the Nest, a unique fully donor funded program providing safe accommodation and holistic support for young parents at risk of losing custody of their baby due to homelessness, domestic violence, or other complex challenges.
Since opening in 2008, the Nest has helped hundreds of young families find stability, develop parenting confidence, and stay together. In 2021/22, every child in the program remained safely in the care of their parent, a powerful achievement that wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support of Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge riders, donors, and sponsors.
Due to the growing success of the event, funds now not only sustain the core Nest program but also support Nest Outreach, a mobile service that extends the same wraparound support to young parents in the community who aren't living onsite. Through regular home visits and practical support, the Outreach team helps young families stay housed, safe, and connected to essential services.
Even more excitingly, the Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge now raises enough to fund the Nest and support one additional Youth Futures program each year, allowing the impact to stretch even further.
The Big Yellow Pipeline Challenge is more than just a ride, it’s a powerful community effort creating real, lasting change for young people across Western Australia.
